Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero is an American actress, singer, and model. She is known for co-starring in the 1984 film by Prince Purple Rain and for having as the leader of the girl group Apollonia 6. She was one of several female performers who gained from Prince's partnership throughout the 1980s. Born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica California in 1959 her career began as a model and actress in the latter part of the 1970s with a role on the tv program CHiPS. She was the lead female in Prince's Purple Rain in 1984 (when the singer changed her name). At the time of that year, she resigned Vanity as part of the group Vanity 6 and was a part of them under the name Apollonia 6 in the film. Sex Shooter was only a small success for the trio, but she was able to make a larger effect as the duet partner of Prince along with Take Me with You on the soundtrack. In the aftermath of a falling out regarding the direction she was taking in her career Apollonia 6 broke up and Kotero quit her relationship with Prince. In the following years she was a part of several minor films. (She was reported to have declined to participate in an upcoming Purple Rain film Under the Cherry Moon.) The singer got a role on the evening drama Falcon Crest between 1985-1986. Apollonia's debut record was released in 1988. But the R&B/dance songs were not well-received by the music buying public. It soon disappeared. The actress continued to perform (if somewhat under the radar), with small TV roles, minor films and a workout DVD. In 1997, Apollonia recorded a bilingual album in Spanish and English called Stay With me. Then, she went back to the college where she earned the degree of filmmaker.
